Looks like he forged himself getting stuck in the mud with a front foot and not able to get it out before he stepped on it with his back foot. Looks worse than it is, but needs to be kept clean. I had a horse that did that and the vet just cut the piece off–it was easy to keep clean and healed great. But you’re right. Oh, Gen!
