Today it is windy. Like 40 mph wind gusts and consistently blowing over 20 mph. It is also only in the 40s so it is cold. It is one of those days that makes you think twice before walking out the door. The kind of day where you think to yourself, “I don’t really need to ride today”. The kind of day where you make all sorts of excuses and justifications for not riding.
I will be riding today though. I got the extra push I needed yesterday. I was at Phoenix’s place and went to put him away in the field. It was then that I saw a family who lives near the farm. This family clearly had a bunch of extra members in town for the Thanksgiving holiday. These people were so excited to see horses, to be near horses, that they were even taking pictures to capture the moment. It was so sweet to see little kids to thrilled to pet one of the minis that they kept talking about it, long after the minis had wandered away.
It was one of those moments that remind you how lucky you have it. I get to see horses, my horses, everyday! Most people can only dream riding off into the sunset. I do it…several days a week.
So what if it is windy and cold today. At least I get to ride. I am so lucky.

Just had such a talk with Equestrian Girl yesterday when she was frustrated that her horse didn’t want to lope the “correct” way to the right. A whole lot of other kids would do anything that to go to an open show and win 4 classes with no warm up with him. Be grateful for what you have and never take it for granted!
We are lucky to be involved with our horses and should be thankful everyday that they even let us love them.
Amen to that! Kisses to those handsome horses of yours from us down here!
We had a perfect day yesterday. Unseasonably warm at almost 70 degrees. I saddled up, but boy – did my horse have a burr under her saddle! Ended up doing more round pen work than riding, but good to be out in the sunshine.
So true! And I sometimes think how lucky I am to be healthy enough to ride…not to mention have just enough $$ to afford them. I do take a lot for granted, that is for sure.
So true!! Never take it for granted because it can all be taken away unexpectedly! Glad to hear you cherish it!!
So true. I think about that everyday. When I was a little girl, my father would drive me into this area to see the horses. Sometimes we would just follow a horse trailer and see where we ended up. I remember my father referring to this area as “God’s Country”…and he sure was right. I have to pinch myself because I can’t believe I live here around so many horses and such beautiful land. I think that is why us horse people are so open and willing to allow non-horse people to be around our horses. We know how it feels. When I was a little girl, I would just ache every time I saw a horse, or rode a pony. When I first started riding, I would cool off the police horses in Jersey City, and I could sit on them at a walk for hours…. By the way, my father would be right there waiting for me too..God bless him. I don’t think I will ever take this time in my life for granted.
