So imagine my surprise when I check my DVR and see that the first episode of the season of Rob Dyrdek centers around him buying a race horse and riding it. No joke! Well…that is not exactly true because the whole show is a joke, but it is every week and that is the point a show. It is campy television for 12 year old boys. Needless to say I am not the target audience. It makes me laugh with its ridiculousness so I have to watch. For those of you who have ever watched it (and I doubt many of you reading this have) this is the guy who bought a mini horse a few years ago because he wanted one and spoiled it turning it into a mini monster. The mini horse literally had to be given away to a trainer just to make it safe. Twice.
So this week he bought into a race horse. He comes in one day with horse leg things on. I forget what they are called, but I know Stacey at Behind the Bit featured them one day. It is a TV show so lots of fake things happen, such as re-naming a racehorse. Anyone who knows anything about Thoroughbred’s knows that you cannot change a racehorses name on the track. It is just not going to happen. He also decided that he is going to be a jockey and run in a race. So he and his cousin find someplace with a track so he can “practice”. The two woman who ride with him are horse people, and thus poke fun at him for deciding to ride a horse.
The episode ends with him riding in a “race”. It is in quotes because 1) it was not a real race. They clearly have the track closed down except for his friends and 2) None of the other horses were allowed to actually go because their jockeys were holding them back and 3) I don’t think it was him riding…I think they had a stunt double.
Regardless it was a show that had me cracking up several times. From the jokes about riding boots being stripper wear (they were ariats too! Brand new ariat tall boots!) to the racehorse trying to bite him when he went in for a hug it is worth a watch if you can catch it. The show is on MTV, and thus will be replayed a dozen times this weekend because that is what they do with all their shows (You know you are not their prime demographic when you actually remember them playing music videos). It is supposed to be a crappy weekend across much of the country so settle in and watch some stupid tv.
And speaking of crappy weather. The barn owner at Gen’s is dead set on having the clinic. It is supposed to rain tonight and all day tomorrow. I have not decided if I am going to ride in the clinic if it is raining (yes. I do melt thank you very much). I have turned into a princess about riding in weather the older I have gotten. I am going to go up and watch the morning rides and if it looks good I will head home to get into my riding stuff and grab the truck. Everything is piled and ready to go by the door. I think Phoenix will be getting a bath in the morning just in case. Oh…and speaking of the fat spotted one…he was turned out in the run instead of the round pen for the first time this week. This run gave him enough space to move and stretch his legs, but was controlled enough that he really couldn’t do too much damage. Two days after he started this I rode him and he was 100%!!! The first time he has felt that way since July 15th so YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually saw a commercial for that show out of the corner of my eye and wondered what it was about – I’m not much of a tv watcher so just to even see that commercial was pretty surprising!
I hear you on the weather thing. We did a show yesterday where the rain was only light and on again off again but it was so cold and windy…totally miserable. The horses started out loving it and were wildly frisky – probably should have even longed our old guy – but even they got sick of it after a while and were happy to stand in their semi-dry stalls between classes after a while.
If felt really good to sit in the truck with the heat cranked up high for the drive home. And it’s August….
where can u get those horselegs he had on? if u kno plz email me
i love that show. and just because its not all real doesnt mean everything about it is fake. rob really did ride that horse. my friend was on that episode holding the horse to help rob get on because he works at hollywood park. so dont talk crap on other peoples shows. you wish you got paid what he does.
Ha you actually think that was fake? wow and that show isn’t just a joke….the Fantasy Factory exists wether there is a TV show or not but the show is there so people can see what goes on behind the scenes. Plus everything they do is legit so what if it was only Rob riding on the track he actually did ride
Shut up you little wimpy ass! If you watched the show you would understand how incredible rob dyrdek is! He is involved in countless companies including DC and a whole bunch of huge brands owning a part of them he owns a restaurant and has 14 pro shoe models! He is an incredible skateboarder and great at many other sports! He did great on a horse for it being his first time ever I’d like to see you get on a skateboard and break your ass! He also gives back to the misfourtunate alot hes given away cars skatboards and made skateparks out of his own pocket! Next time do some research before you bag someone who is and probably should be everyones role model! (watch the episode who is rob dyrdek and you might understand how ridiculous you sound)
I love all the teenagers coming out to Rob’s defense. One day they will be 30 and realize how fake and scripted the show is. They just have not lived long enough to know better. I mean every show is the same show with a new “stunt”. Rob has idea, they bring in a smaller scale of the idea to factory. Then his queer cousin says this is not a good idea. Then the even queerer manager freaks out all fake style about safety. Rob acts like it is the best idea ever, and shortly starts to act like maybe this wasn’t a good idea in order to build suspense. Followed by body doubles doing the real deal with a few clips cut here and there to make it look like Rob is doing it. Rinse, repeat over and over.
