X’s barn is driving me crazy yet again. I swear if I end my lease ever it is going to have NOTHING to do with Lori or X. So I kindly worked for them while the mother and daughter went on vacation. That was a rough week for me because I was working all day, going straight to Genny’s barn to give him some love an attention, and then going to my usual job. I hardly got any sleep that week and I was majorly stressed out. I don’t mind helping out, and I knew going into it that it wasn’t going to pay me as well as my normal barn gig, but I was okay with that. I wanted to double check with them that they were taking my work out of X’s board for Sept and they were…at like nothing an hour. Now I will take a pay cut because I am helping and it is temporary, but come on. They want to give me less than half of my normal rate per hour! And the best part is they asked me at the same time if i could help again in a few weeks. I told them, in a nice way, that their calculations were incorrect, and maybe for Sept. I would rather not work then work for that little money! And that is saying something because I am a total workaholic! At least X came in for a few hours today.
Speaking of work tomorrow (Saturday) is my last night working at Genny’s old barn. It is crazy to think about! I will do a post on it for tomorrow.
And in good news the son at Hill Farm got released from the hospital today! YAY! And he is doing so well he doesn’t have to go to a rehab center so the wife, husband and son are coming home today. There horse is going to be so happy to see them…he just stands there looking out his window to the house waiting for them to come down.

I’ve got no respect for people who take advantage of someone’s good nature. I say they should pay you full price for your services. If you are nice enough to help out, they should appreciate that and not cut your pay but up it considerably for the excellent care you give everyone.
I’ve seen this happen time and again to my daughter, my advice to her is what I will tell you, take it if you want or throw it out with the manure. Always ask and get it in writing what your jobs are to be and how much you will be paid for your time. Have this agreement signed by both parties and there will be no room for misunderstandings in the future. Hope you have a nice weekend.
Hmm, seems to be a lot of that going around… The farm I helped out at this past weekend still hasn’t paid me, and they also haven’t returned a SINGLE phone call.
I did need the extra cash, but I was also helping them out in a pinch because they were friends-of-a-friend and couldn’t find anyone else. I think I’m starting to see why…
GHM – I get paid a lot more per hour then the average barn worker at Gennyral’s old barn because I am the assistant manger, I am one of the few people that can work for the manager and keep the peace, and also I am really good at what I do. Just last night one of the ponies had a swollen eye before turnout so I took care of it and treated it the way I would want my horses eye to be treated and then sent a text message to the manager letting her know there was a problem, how I treated it and why she would find the pony in the morning with the anti-eye-itch mask on. Her response…”I am really going to miss you when you leave. I don’t have to worry or think when you are here”. I think the signed contract is a really good idea. One that I am going to have to do if I ever do this again. I am hoping to get a new job soon though that is non-horsey, but I think the contract idea is something I am going to have to take with me in life. I don’t mind that this barn isn’t paying me as much as I normally get, but they need to not try and pinch pennies with me at the same time. Especilly since they are doing just fine in the money category. If you can afford to show 3 days a week in the A circut you cann’t penny pinch me!
NTAT – That would drive me crazy! I have never not been paid (thank goodness). I would camp out at their driveway. That stinks that you were being a nice person and they screwed you over! I really hope they call you back and PAY you asap!
